Battleblog

Welcome to the New Battlemouth

While Mike and I were in college we trolled around on the internet. Blogs were just becoming big: I had had a Livejournal for a few years and mike had his for a couple… I think we both wanted something less based in vanity like a personal blog, something bigger. For a while, we shared a blog of crappy drawings, called Mike and Danny, which unfortunately, only holds a tenth the pictures it used to, but still features an amazing picture of me with long hair.

Then on March 1st of 2005, Mike told me he had registered battlemouth.com, just on a whim. It was around that time that godaddy.com had started it’s 10 dollar domain purchases. He made a little blog. Jeff helped him put it together and Mike asked me to join up and help write, and create an image to go along with it. It was then that I came up with the now defunct flying pig.

We went through Countless iterations, adding authors, a forum, features and robots. Mike and I lived in two different cities, and then as roommates, then in two different cities again, then back in our hometown, and then two different states. Each of us had periods where we wrote nothing for the site and let the other take the reigns, and over the past year we’ve each had 4 different jobs. Throughout the whole thing we established a small community. Eventually however the community overtook the blog itself.

So now we reach the second coming of the website (the fifth if you count our haphazard versioning, or like the eighth if you count how many times we redesigned it), and we’re trying to meld the community back into the blog. Jeff has come on board completely now, and his background in web design and web site direction will help us do just that.

So I’d like you to enjoy the gallery I’ve put together of snippets from previous versions of battlemouth.com. It’s taken me back a bit, finding all of this stuff. Some things were lost to the vast interwebs long ago, but thanks to the wayback machine, you can check out what the site used to look like and the sort of things we posted about.

And thank you for reading over the years, nothing means more to us than the idea that we’re being heard by someone, even if it’s a small number. Know that we sincerely appreciate your attention. We do this for you.
