A Dummy’s Guide to Danger

Viper Comics new comic “A Dummy’s Guide to Danger” by Jason M. Burns and Joe Eisma, can be summed up as a sarcastic punch to the face. Now, now, don’t be put off. Any comic, whose main character is a ventriloquist dummy, is bound to be a bit on the satirical side.

Mr. Alan Sirois is a private eye, taking a break from the spotlight of high profile cases along with his buddy Bloomberg. They occasionally butt heads because they hang around each other so often, but overall are a winning combo.

The comic duo works well because although Mr. Sirois thinks Bloomberg is real, the rest of the world believes Alan to be crazy. This reoccurring element is the driving force behind the entire satire. It allows for constant clever rebuttals from the dynamic team. Not afraid to speak his (their) mind(s), awkward situations have never been funnier.

Now, I can safely say I am enjoying the comic thus far. The comic has clean lines, no fuss art and a surprisingly animated dummy. I didn’t get into the series because of jaw dropping art; instead it was a genuine curiosity to see how these two characters could be any more extreme than they already are.

The comics shining point is the dialogue between Alan when defending Bloomberg. A good read if you enjoy literature dripping with cynical repertoires. Go into it looking for some good one liners, and come out wondering what misadventures will happen next.
