To be completely honest, when I first saw the trailer for Eagle Eye, I was not too impressed. The whole premise is that some organization is controlling a group of people to accomplish the organization’s objectives, by any means necessary. Shia LeBouf’s character is dragged into working with a woman who was dragged into it by threats on her son. So they have to complete the tasks given to them by the monotonous woman’s voice while the FBI try to capture or stop them and also try and break free of the organization’s hold on them. All in all, makes for a fairly good example of a modern day action movie. Something which I’m never too excited about.
The story itself is realistic and totally plausible with some movie magic thrown in, but not so much that it’s obvious and blaring. Sure there were definite technological improbabilities, especially apparent from an engineer’s view. But this is a movie, it is meant to entertain and certain liberties can be taken, none of which I think the director overstepped. Good points so far.
Action movies have to have large explosions, guns, blood and lots of death and screaming people. The movie starts off with explosions, cuts to exposition, then goes pretty much nonstop until the end with action that recalls some of the techniques learned in the Bourne series about shaky cameras. It’s simple, it’s stupid and it really works. I was definitely enthralled. And even with all this action and shakiness, the movie still sticks bits of plot in there. Good plot, mind you, it flows with the movie. In short this was not a boring movie at all. Eagle Eye delivered like a good action movie should.
I went into the theater expected a sub-par experience and left corrected. Looking back, there was very little critically wrong with the movie at all. I definitely recommend Eagle Eye for those in the market for an enjoyable action movie.
