Can a show about vampires really be all that entertaining? I thought “The Count” from Sesame Street was the last vampire I’d ever admire, but HBO has proved me wrong once again. Don’t get me wrong, a show about vampires mingling and falling in love with mortals seems corny to me too, but after watching a view episodes, I can assure you this show is the real deal. Based on Charlaine Harris’s popular novels, True Blood provides a unique combination of mystery, love, creepiness, and humor into one show. When the Japanese come up with a synthetic blood that allows vampires to no longer depend on humans for their food, some vampires decide to come out of their coffins and attempt to coincide with their former prey, and well, most people don’t really like this idea. The show, which is based in backwoods Louisiana, plays on the stereotypes that occur in the southern states today, using the vampires as metaphors. With blonde bombshell Anna Paquin starring as “Sookie Stackhouse”, its hard not to watch. The season just started a few weeks ago (it’s on Sundays at 9 pm), so start watching it and you won’t be too far behind. Based on what I’ve seen so far, this show has a shot to be one of HBO’s classic television series, so don’t miss out.
