Body of Lies

I caught Ridley Scott’s new spy thriller Body of Lies this weekend, and was thoroughly satisfied, but not wowed. Based off David Ignatius’s novel,  Roger Ferris (Leonardo Dicaprio) strives to gather information about various terrorist groups in order to find their leader, Al Saleem. The movie is an action packed thriller, and it rarely ever has a boring moment. However, what annoyed me the most was that towards the end of the film, Dicaprio’s actions became driven by his love interest Aisha (Golshifteh Farahani), and not by his desire to stop the terrorist group. A typical action movie yes, I was just hoping to see something more. The camera work from Scott is done to perfection, with close up shots that make you feel like you’re right there in the battles. It’s an average movie that is transformed into a great movie by Leonardo DiCaprio’s incredible acting presence. I also found it interesting that Russell Crowe took more of a supporting role in the movie, which is unusual for an star of his stature. I would recommend seeing this movie, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to catch it.
