Magazines Mike Reads - Complex

Wow am I tired of seeing that Castle Crashers featured post, time to get something new up. I’m going to start randomly featuring magazines that I buy on a regular basis and think are worthy of sharing. First magazine I’ll share will be the “Ultimate Buyer’s Guide for Men” from Marc Ecko Productions Complex. I first learned about Complex with their Kristen Bell issue. I spent all sorts of time looking for the issue and only could find an issue with Lil Wayne on the cover. Turns out I was just a big ol’ noob, each issue of Complex has two covers (one on each side) which splits the magazine into two mini issues. If you’re not keen to this you’ll get about half way through and all of a sudden everything will be upside down, that means flip!

Complex covers video games, music, sex, style, and women. This can be said for many a men’s magazine, but their is a certain younger attitude to Complex that distances it from its competitors, and they don’t come off like doofy hornballs as some other magazines do. This isn’t to say they don’t appreciate any of the the things they cover, and speaking of covers some of their cover girl’s shoots have been the hottest I’ve ever seen. For example I had no idea who Aubrey O’day was until I got the October issue, and I must thank Complex for sharing.

Being a Marc Ecko Production there is a certain urban feel to the magazine but it is subtle and my white ass can still relate to nearly the whole magazine. Style is always fresh and new, they cover the insanely expensive to the affordable so everyone can get in the fun, this most recent issue has a $200 Bomber Jacket I’m lusting over. If you’re into sneakers then that is reason enough to get a subscription to Complex, they have pages and pages of the newest and most awesome sneakers available. So far one pair of sneakers I own were featured, that’s a pretty big deal for me haha.
Most of their reviews are short and to the point averaging a sentence or two, which is nice at times and frustrating other times. Their interviews are always with the most culturally relevant people at the time, this month’s interview with Seth Rogen and Kevin Smith is extra awesome with a porn quiz and everything!

At $4.99 and issue or $14 for a year subscription you really cant go wrong with Complex, I guess if you’re whiter and less hip than me (which is hard) you might not dig it as much. But I mean c’mon they got Olivia Munn to be a cover girl, you G4 fan boys got to love that. She’s like your queen or something right?
