Here is the last of the 3 interviews with the guys from Robot Martini, thanks to our server outage this one took awhile to go live. Better late than never right? Enjoy my interview with Robot Martini’s Dan.
> What are some web comics/comic books that you read?
It doesn’t get updated much lately, but Marmaduke Explained was pretty awesome for a while. Also, Joystiq does an excellent weekly wrapup of webcomics that I enjoy – it’s been a thrill to have Sidescroller featured there.
I’ve been an Achewood devotee for what seems like forever. Sidescroller is basically an attempt to fuse Achewood’s style and lack of pretense with Penny Arcade’s subject matter.
As for ink-on-paper, old Asterix and Tintin books make me unreasonably happy.
> When you have the time which games do you play?
>
Lately, LittleBigPlanet. I like building too-elaborate machines that tend to break if you look at them funny. Before that, Mega Man 9 and CoD4. Whenever I can get friends over to play, I like Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, and Zendo.
> How did robot martini get started?
>
My good friend Gavin has been coming up with ideas for games since his elementary school days. It was sort of a foregone conclusion he’d start up a games business. Once the website was live it provided a good platform to draw some geeky comics.
> How do you make a robot martini?
>
2 parts methanol, 1 part Freon. Shake for forty million CPU cycles; garnish with an anodized aluminum washer.
> Do you drink martinis?
>
I’ve only had a few. They’re pretty good, but I’m more of a beer, whisky and wine guy (in that order). I like a straight rusty nail – I’m working my way through the list of 65-year-old-man drinks.
> Worst/best internet meme ever?
>
Let’s say goatse.cx for the worst, it’s just mean-spirited all around. For the best, it’s a guilty pleasure, but I get a chuckle every time I see a well-done Shoop da Whoop. Actually All Your Base may be the best and the worst at the same time.
> How much paper craft is on your desk?
>
None, I’m afraid. My desk at work is too cluttered with current projects, and my home printer is busted.
> Do you have a favorite strip you’ve written?
>
I think “the housing market affects us all” is my favorite so far. That’s the first one I show people, especially people who aren’t game-savvy. (Strip #16.)
