Battlemouth

Every other site did it, and now I will too (except a week too late). Here is my best of list for 2008! I’ll try to cover a few different topics, haven’t heard of something I listed? Take it being on the list as a strong recommendation to check said thing out. After you’re all done let me know what was on yours.

Video Games

Gamers were pretty lucky this year, we got a hearty helping of awesome games especially during the holiday blitz. Everyone seems to have a different favorite, mine was undoubtedly Fall Out 3. Who would’ve thought such a bleak environment could be presented so beautifully. The game play was as solid as it gets with a story to back it up. But what really made it stand out was the fact that once the main story was done you had almost another game’s worth of side quests and extras to do.

Music

I have such a hard time picking out my favorite albums year to year, but these five have been consistently playing in iTunes and on my iPod. MGMT was most certainly the best of the bunch, it was one of those albums I had on repeat for about the first two weeks I owned it.

Comic Books

I had to do a top 10 for this one, I read far too many awesome comic books this years to get it down to 5. Y the Last man wrapped up at the beginning of 2008 but was such a compelling story that it deserves one more top spot. Fables is in a close 2nd with its continued commitment to some of the best story telling available. The rest are all equally notable and represent the best the medium had to offer this year.

Movies

Funny Games was one of the more twisted and artfully presented movies I’ve seen in awhile. Preppy boys torturing families in their fancy houses with well manicured lawns. The whole movie leaves you feeling uncomfortable since the idea of it really happening is totally plausible.
