The first episode of “Castle” has aired. Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) is a famous mystery writer who gets called to help the NYPD with a case when a murderer killed his victims the same way that was done in Castle’s novels. Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) leads the investigation. So you basically have a guy who acts like a big kid helping a detective who plays by the rules.
So is it good?
I am going to say that I can see myself watching this show week by week. The thing with pilots is that you need character development and the episode tends to focus more on the characters than being able to focus on tricks and twists that make mysteries compelling. This I think is a good thing because you are able to relate with the characters and get hooked when the series gets into it’s main story, which will pretty much be the next episode. So it is a bit early to judge as to how good the mysteries will be, but it is a fun show. I think the first episode introduces the characters and the skeleton plot of the show well enough in the first episode, so we should see a better case in episode 2.
If you like Nathan Fillion and his egotistical sarcastic fun humor, you won’t be disappointed. If you are looking for a good mystery show, at the moment we are seeing more humor elements, but it still wouldn’t be a bad idea to check it out. If you are looking for something serious, this isn’t the show you’re looking for.
“Castle” airs on ABC at 10p.m. eastern time on Mondays.
