It’s literally been years since everyone’s favorite ‘Merc with a Mouth’ got his own solo series (Cable and Deadpool doesn’t count), and it’s safe to say that now is an excellent time to be a Deadpool fan. Well, apart from his appearance in the new Wolverine movie, which (if you’ve been following information spread throughout the interweb) is just embarrassing to look at! Not only does ol’ Wade have an ongoing solo series out, but several other books as well! Lemme break it down for you.
Deadpool
That’s right, he’s back. When Cable and Deadpool was cancelled Cable got his own book, and us Deadpool fans felt betrayed (some of us insulted. I mean, come on – Cable!? Really??). That is until Marvel went and surprised us all. The new series is written by Daniel Way (Wolverine: Origins, Ghost Rider), whose comedic prose takes me back to the days of Joe Kelly!
In the dying days of Secret Invasion, we’re treated to that lovable scamp in the red pajamas laying waste to some Skrulls and infiltrating their ranks. Though you all may remember Norman pulling the trigger on the Skrull Queen that led to the end of last year’s epic fiasco, it wouldn’t have been possible without Deadpool! Upon infiltrating their ranks, Deadpool sends the secret of “How to Kill a Skrull Queen” to Nick Fury. That is until it’s intercepted by Norman Osborn. So now that it’s kicked off, Deadpool is out to collect the money he got cheated out of – from Osborn himself! The current story arc (aptly titled, “Magnum Opus”)pits him off against Osborn’s new Thunderbolts. The story is contained within the pages of Deadpool #8 and 9, and Thunderbolts #130 and #131. Look for the conclusion in Thunderbolts #131 at the end of this month! You don’t want to miss it!
Deadpool: Games of Death #1
In a one-shot story penned by Mike Benson (Moon Knight), Wade is hired to find a billionaire’s son. The catch? He’s got to enter a winner takes all Japanese game show, where if you don’t win, you die! Violence and that classic Deadpool banter we’ve all come to love is abounds in this book. You can pick it up at your local comic book retailer.
Deadpool: Suicide Kings
Newcomer to writing Deadpool, Mike Benson is not only doing a mighty fine job (check out Games of Death), but he’s giving us even more Deadpool than we originally bargained for! In a 5-part mini of epic proportions, Deadpool’s been set up by a rich kid who’s got a lot of money riding on our hero getting taken out. A star-studded menagerie of guest stars include Spider-Man, Tombstone, and The Punisher. Marking the first time Deadpool has had two series running at the same time, this is a book you have to check out! Suicide Kings #1 landed this past week and look for #2 in May!
