I happen to have the benefit of enjoying a job that requires little to no acctual work. I sit at a sweet computer with virtually no web restrictions and answer phones all night (3rd shift). Yes, occasionally my job does involve more than that, but most of the time I am just trying to find ways to not be bored as I work alone and cannot leave my office even to relieve myself. One night as I sat at my station tweeting and watching The Mighty Boosh (thanks www.adultswim.com) I had a bit of an idea… When my night starts to get reaaaaally slow, and the boredom is nearly untolerable, I turn to the ever enjoyable Free Online Browser Games! And then I thought, “Shit Aaron, you should just share some of your swell hidden internet treasures with the readers!”
To which I replied “Dude that is a fucking lame idea…but whatever I’m bored.” So I think what I am going to do is start a series of short entries on things to entertain you whilst you are surfing, or things to do when you are just plain tired of surfing.
Tonight will be episode 1 of “Adventures in the Interwebs!”
This post’s Theme? Fantastic Free online browser games!
Now of course there are tons of great computer games out there that I could play that would eat up plenty of time. WoW, Diablo 2, Medieval Total War, Warhammer Online, blah blah blah, but while my work computer is a nice one, it does not have a video card worthy of my eyes. So here are a few games that eat tons of my time, take no money, and are just a really good time! We will start out with a recent find of mine. This one is a little tough to beat, but extremely fun…PANDEMIC II. Created by Dark Realm Studios, a young company out of BC, Canada, (http://www.darkrealmstudios.com/index.html) got their first big exposure thanks to Newgrounds.com with Pandemic 1. In this version of the game the object is to create a disease that will spread throughout the world leaving no one alive. Your first options are to choose the type of disease, virus, bacteria, or parasite. This choice will effect the speed at which you will be able to evolve your disease into the ultimate lethal pandemic. As you gain evoloution points you can cash them in for different ways in which your disease can spread including rodents and insects, but also the symptoms that go along with the sickness. The hard part is to find a balance between a disease that is both deadly and contagious but not easily discoverable. All in all it is a really fun game, the realistic version of the game is certainly time consuming, but the adjustable three speeds of play make you able to at least constantly be doing something. I am eager to try out the other fun stuff from the folks over at Dark Realm!

This next game is a little more simple in theory, but just as, if not more, difficult in the long run. Fantastic Contraption was created by one guy, Colin Northway. I have been hard pressed to find more info on Mr. Northway except that he is clearly a clever mofo. This game has
several great selling points, from its open ended playing options, to its endless amounts of custom levels. I recomend trying your hand all the way through the original game before going for any of the customs though. The object is simple, you are to get the red shape to the red boxed area using any of several provided pieces. Motorized wheels, free spin wheels, and two different kinds of connector pieces add up to… well… whatever the hell you can get to work. Climbing hills, jumping gaps, up stairs, down stairs, and many other crazy problems are yours to solve any way you see fit when you create your very own contraption. This game, even the basic levels have provided ENDLESS hours of play for me, and many that I know, and I think that you will love the shit out of it too.
