Unthinkable

A brief google search of the phrase “conspiracy theories” will return with almost 10 million hits. They range from accusations that the US Government was responsible for 9/11 to old classic “Big Brother” is watching stuff. The scary part is when they are substantiated by believable facts…..
The point is, there are a lot of crazy ideas out there for terrorist attacks and eschaton events…one could wonder, what would happen if someone with the means and desire to carry out such an act were to read one of these nutter ideas and act on it? Who would we hold responsible? Who would be to blame?

Mark Sable (“Grounded” and “Fearless” fame), along with Boom Studios, have so far put out 3 issues of UNTHINKABLE as I write this, each one only getting better.
Alan Ripley is an author reminiscent of a more degenerate Tom Clancy. However while Mr. Clancy writes from a lot of personal experience, Alan’s tales are woven from his brother Stevens experiences as an ex-Navy Seal turned Private Military Contractor (The Wolfpack) and a bit of a imagination. Well maybe a little more of the latter. The first issue shows a lot of foundation being laid for what is to happen in the rest of this 5 part series. Without giving away too much, essentially after 9/11 Alan is forced to ask himself some of those tough questions mentioned above…Out of the chaos following the attacks Alan is recruited by the government to take part in a special “Think Tank” comprised of a select few that share a common “creative” and “negative” outlook on the world . The soul purpose of this group…to think up the Unthinkable in an effort to stop the “worst case scenario” from ever becoming a reality.
One could think that this alone would make for a great comic book series…but Mark Sable goes a step further.
What happens when, years later, their “worst case scenarios” begin to happen, the unthinkable…becomes reality. The game is afoot as the reunited members of the “Think Tank” race across the world in a battle to save the world from their own horrible ideas?! Pursued by their own government who, through an unfortunate series of events, blames Alan for the attacks, can he become the action hero not unlike the one from his books and save the day?
Perhaps we should hope that the “pen” is mightier than the sword….

Hearkening back to the days when Robert Ludlem was in his prime, “Rainbow 6″ wasn’t known as a video game, and Ramius was just leading the Red October towards freedom….Mark Sable’s “UNTHINKABLE” should be hailed as equally well written and mesmerizing entertaining!

On a side note, Mark Sable via twitter (@marksable) pointed out that he was stopped by TSA security guards at LAX and held for almost an hour due to the “suspicious” content found in the script of “Unthinkable” issue #3 he was carrying with him! Mark tweeted later “Talk about life imitating art imitating life. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.”

Be sure to stop here for all the latest from Mark Sable!
