The lovely folk over at Microsoft have announced today that there will soon be some new additions to the list of Xbox’s “Platinum Hits”. The collection, as most Xbox 360 owners know, contains only the top selling games for the Xbox 360. Some are indeed deserving of their title (Assassin’s Creed)…and some not so much (Transformers: The Game). Despite mixed opinions on the collection as a whole, I think most players will agree that these latest additions are certainly worthy. Left 4 Dead, Grand Theft Auto 4, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Saints Row 2, and lastly Street Fighter IV gain themselves a nice new price of 19.99 (starting price) and a what is sure to be an ugly new cover box. No word yet on the status of these games availability on your Xbox Live “Games On-Demand” feature, just added with the latest patch.
On a personal note, I have to say that the “Platinum Hits” both thrill and disgust me. Instantly my games feel less appealing, thanks in part, to the gross over saturation of these titles appearance on shelves of every store known to carry electronics of any sort. I have even seen “Army of Two” for sale in a gas station…and no…it wasn’t even a nice gas station. I feel like somehow I have been robbed when I see a game I bought new, sitting on the shelf with that nasty box on it. On the other hand, there is nothing better than forgetting how much I enjoyed gang banging with my homies in Saints Row 2, only to be reminded of its quality by finding it buried in the back of the clearance games at Target with an attractive 19.99$ sticker on it. A price no wife can come up with a good reason to deny her geek, husband…not that I have to ask or anything.
