Coming Soon To A Theatre Near You!

Most people know about the big blockbusters that are coming soon, Iron Man 2, New Moon, Harry Potter 97, etc…however, I find that frequently there are some quality films that slip through the cracks! Here is a short list on some titles coming soon in the next few months that I think are worth looking at!

PIRATE RADIO

Pirate Radio

Release Date: November 13, 2009
Director: Richard Curtis
Stars: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost (Full Cast)
Studio: Focus Features

My Thoughts: I love the cast, I love the story. When the government tried to stop Rock-n-Roll from blowing minds on the radio…these guys said NO. They took to the sea and became Pirates of the Airwaves riding in a traveling studio! Looks Brilliant!

GENTLEMEN BRONCO”S

Gentlemen Broncos

(Limited Release October 23, 2009)
Director: Jared Hess
Stars: Michael Angarano, Jemaine Clement, Mike White (Full Cast)
Studio: Fox Searchlight Pictures

My Thoughts: Science-fiction author Ronald Chevalier (Clement) faces charges of plagiarism from aspiring teenage writer Benjamin Purvis (Angarano) after his recent book is released. We all know and love Jemaine Clement…one look at this trailer and I guarantee you will be as excited to see this as I am! Sam Rockwell is cast as Jemaine’s fictional hero and the footage of him make me laugh so hard I nearly cry!

THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS

The Men Who Stare at Goats

Release Date: November 6, 2009
Director: Grant Heslov
Stars: Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Kevin Spacey (Full Cast)
Studio: Overture Films

My Thoughts: Truth  time, I have a man crush on almost all of the cast of this movie. George Clooney is awesome, and I don’t care who knows it! Reporter Bob Wilton (McGregor) meets Lyn Cassady (Clooney), whose seemingly wild claim – that he’s a member of the U.S. Army’s First Earth Battalion, a unit that employs paranormal powers in their missions – causes Wilton to join Cassady’s hunt for the battalion’s founder, whose gone missing.

THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS

(AKA HEATH LEDGERS LAST MOVIE)

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Release Date: December 25, 2009 (limited)
Director: Terry Gilliam
Stars: Christopher Plummer, Lily Cole, Heath Ledger (Full Cast)
Studio: Sony Pictures Classics

My Thoughts: If you don’t know the story of Terry Gilliam…you need to look it up. The man is nothing short of a genius, one that has been stricken with the worst luck of all times. The plot is rather simple, a story-telling doctor’s deal with the devil sends him scrambling to save his daughter on the eve of her 16th birthday. This movie is about the amazingly talented cast (one of my hero’s, Tom Waits, included) and the remarkable visuals that will become just as important as the story itself. This will have more press as the time for release draws nearer and therefore maybe an exception to my list of films…regardless, this movie must not be missed, that much is clear already. Bravo, Terry, for wrapping this baby up and overcoming all the insurmountable odds over the years! I can’t wait.

THE WOLFMAN (just because I love Halloween!)

The Wolfman

Director: Joe Johnston
Stars: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt (Full Cast)

My Thoughts: …..Epic….that is all.
