I find anymore that when it comes time for my once a year shopping trip for clothes, the stores just don’t cut it anymore. I am a young geek on the go an I need articles of clothing that represent me, and not five other people as well! Not that I have a problem wearing the same thing as everyone else, conformity is a security blanket….and Old Navy is cheap. However being a geek I have the benefit of being in on this secret club not many know about. My membership card (23.95 yearly by the way) allows me access to this amazing place….called the internet.
From Threadless.com to 80stees.com, the internet offers an incredible amount of unique and amazing clothing. From independent designers offering a limited run of incredible designs to the more advanced tailors and imagineers that offer entire lines of bad ass clothing, the internet offers a plethora of wondrous wear. Some clothing on the internet more closely resembles sui generis works of art, like those from Raygun Robyn while others are just more of the same. It is because of this that I decided to pick a few of my favorite clothiers and bring them to you, the reader, for the holiday season. I hope that this little mini-series will enlighten you that you might look your best when attending those dreadful family functions.
Raygun Robyn, from what I can tell, uses her Alien powers to some how create the most unique articles of clothing (and bags and accessories) EVER. Robyn’s mothership currently floats over Maryland (cloaked of course to avoid panic and hysteria). From her floating future palace hidden in the skies, she designs fabulous hoodies, magical satchels (bags for those not as cool as me), brilliant industrial and futuristic tee’s, and more.
Robyn’s style reminds me of what I think the future will really be like. The spattering of color on dark backgrounds portrays the gritty and harsh reality surely in store for future generations. Not to mention the tentacles…because as we know, in December of 2012 Cthulhu is coming to take us all. I discovered Raygun Robyn’s incredible collection believe it or not through a friend on twitter’s flikr page. I was lurking about checking out pictures when I noticed an odd picture with only one little tiny tag box in the middle of it…all it said was “Raygun Robyn Kills”. I thought that was a bit curious…I decided to talk to the hippest of the hip in order to find out just who or what was a “Raygun Robyn”…. I was, of course, not disappointed in my friends knowledge of all that is awesome. Google quickly led me to www.RaygunRobyn.com where I quickly fell in love…as I do so often on the internet. I managed to telepathically contact Raygun Robyn and convince her that I was worthy to do a short interview. So put on your foil hat, dig out your lead lined pants, and get ready to be rocked!
Aaronthestrong- Where did Raygun Robyn come from? How did you get started making your own clothing and accessory line?
Raygun Robyn- I’m originally from Mars but I’ve spent most of my life in your present in a place you call “California”. At first I tried to fit in with you Earthlings but some people haven’t really appreciated my…unique alien qualities. After many failed attempts to domesticate myself, I realized that I could tell my story of the future in pictographs that you people seem to enjoy.
ATS- Your style is very unique, did you stumble across these talents or did
you set out to create some sweet ass clothes with these methods in mind?
RR- The technique I use was first cultivated in 2374 by my great, great
grandfather Hal the First, so technically its an old family tradition,
even tho its new to this Earth. Basically, lasers do all the work and
then there are some flashes of green light and awesomeness ensues!
ATS- Robots and Tentacles…what can be cooler? No really, what can be cooler,
do you have new designs on the horizon?
RR- I’m currently working on one all-over shirt design that I think people
are gonna like. Its the story of an EPIC battle from my time, two
forces bravely fought in unforgiving territory for the survival of
both of their species. But I don’t want to spoil who won.

ATS- Can we expect to see Raygun Robyn at any upcoming conventions or shows?
RR- I’m doing one holiday show in December, Binge, in Baltimore where my
base camp is currently set up. I’m planning on doing more shows next
year, possibly some tattoo conventions and in different cities, so
stay tuned for more deets!
ATS- Where can we get some of those fresh duds? (Yes fresh as in…Fresh
Prince…as in 1990’s for awesome)
RR- You can find my funky, fresh threads online on my Etsy, Ninth Life and Atomic Books in Baltimore, and Queen of Hearts in Providence, RI. I’m currently talking to some
consignment stores around the country so let me know if any of you
crazy kids know of any shops that would love my stuff! Earthlings
RAWK!!
I know, your mind is blown, right reader? Well just wait there’s more, Robyn has more designs on her etsy, as well as some other really fun stuff…even BRAIN SLUGS! In addition to her great blog full of updates and information over at www.RaygunRobyn.com you can also follow Robyn on twitter for UP TO THE MINUTE updates on future planetary invasions, brain slug spore release dates, and current designs…so follow @RaygunRobyn.
