The Final Season of Lost *SPOILER FREE, I PROMISE*

In case you are living under a rock…or have horrible taste in…well, everything…you know that tonight was the Premiere of the FINAL SEASON of ABC’s Lost . I didn’t feel right not posting something concerning this momentous occasion as it seems everyone and their brother is excited for this bit of awesome. I give you my solemn vow that I will not spoil anything for anyone who has not yet watched the premiere while it airs. This post originally was going to be a re-cap of the premiere episode; now that I am halfway in however, I realize there is no way to do this without completely ruining it. So this is more my tribute to the final season of what has been one hell of a ride.

As I write this, the first hour of the season premiere is underway and, as usual, it is merely a recap of everything you have missed up to now. If you have not watched the other 5 seasons, please do not think that you can just watch this hour and realize why we all rant and rave about this show. You will surely be brought up to speed on the goings-on–both on and off the Island–but I assure you it will not do the show justice. You had to be there with the survivors when the plane went down, when Lock stood up, when the polar bears appeared from no where, when they opened the hatch, or when Jack and Sawyer stared at each other menacingly as if to say “I banged her first!”
For those of us that were there from the beginning, this season promises to bring closure and peace of mind, or at least to relieve us from the vertigo caused by season 5.

The questions we hope to have answered are too numerous to count, and some are too confusing to regurgitate. With amazing writers like Brian K Vaughn (Y the Last Man, Ex Machina, Pride…one of my favorites by the way) missing for this final season, we can only cross our fingers and hope for the best. The one thing non-Lost watchers need to understand before they come back and join the party is that this show is incredibly frustrating. It is one of the rare shows of which I have never missed an episode, although there were several seasons in which I swore I would never again watch…and then that next Wednesday I would be right back on the couch waiting for the next episode to start.

Time for the episode to start…I’ll be back in a minute…

This is why Lost is amazing: before the first break is even here…before the opening credits even roll….everything we already know is turned upside down. One of my favorite things about Lost is the way that they throw you completely off any trail you thought you were on… in the first seven minutes of the show. While it is fun never to have any idea where things are going, however, it is also quite frustrating when the last 5 seasons that you have spent so much time trying to figure out an ending to are completely upended. If this is true then none of that can be true and if none of that can be true then this also is not true, and that means Lost the show NEVER REALLY EXISTED!
Sometimes I wonder if they shouldn’t change the name of this show to “What?”
Before I give anything away I think I will just end things right here. Lost is a mind-fuck that I think everyone should enjoy…especially that episode! I leave you with this, concerning the first episode…yes, it is good…yes, you will enjoy it…and yes, in true Lost fashion, your mind will be BLOWN.
