Battlemouth Kitchen Essentials – The 8 Inch Cast-Iron Skillet

There are a couple kitchen items I hold near and dear to my heart, which got me thinking that maybe if I think so highly of these items someone else also would enjoy them and they just don’t know it yet! Which leads us to today’s post which will ideally become a series of posts about kitchen items I think everyone should own or at least think about owning.

The first item I’ll share with you is the Lodge 8 Inch Cast-Iron Skillet! I’m a big fan of cast-iron cookware it holds heat evenly, works great in low or high heat, can be used over a campfire, and transitions from the stove top to oven easily. This versatility is great when you’re looking for one pan to be a kitchen workhorse and don’t want to break the bank.

I love making dishes like Sweet Potato Hash in this pan as I can cook each ingredient in it then toss some eggs on top, throw it in the broiler for a few minutes and I’ve got an awesome one pan meal. The small size is also great for me as I often am cooking just for myself so I don’t need a huge pan although this same style skillet is offered in larger sizes if you’re someone that cooks larger meals.

When using cast-iron you just have to be mindful of cleaning it properly, this means no harsh cleaners that’ll wash off the oil seasoning on it. Otherwise this pan is as easy as it gets to take care of, use it sear some meat, fry up some bacon, make a frittata, or even make some corn bread. The recipe list goes on and on which just further reinforces how useful this little pan is.

One thing to keep in mind is that cast-iron pans are heavy, this little guy is no exception. So if you’re looking for a nice light pan to whip up some omelettes on this probably isnt the best choice. But as far as I’m concerned, I’ll deal with a heavy pan in exchange for being able to cook a steak and a side of veggies all in one pan.

I own 4 other cast-iron pans which I love, but this little 8 inch skillet is my favorite of the bunch. The fact that you can score one on Amazon for $13 makes it hard to pass up adding this awesome little pan to you kitchen arsenal!
